Exclusive Interview
Q: “Digital Boy” hits hard with both sound and message. What inspired you to write it?
Lividus (Matt Beesley): I actually wrote “Digital Boy” after losing someone close to me. It got me thinking deeply about how detached people can especially younger kids can become from the world around them. Technology is a powerful tool, no doubt, but it’s also become a mask, a distraction. I’ve seen kids lose touch with reality, and it’s heartbreaking, especially when they’re already vulnerable. I needed to speak on it.
Q: You crafted the Lividus project during the lockdown. What was that process like?
Lividus: It was kind of beautiful, actually. I didn’t let the isolation stop me. I leaned into platforms like Airgigs, Bandcamp, and SoundCloud used them as a sort of virtual studio. Collaboration became this borderless thing. In a way, the same technology I’m critiquing in “Digital Boy” is what made the song possible. That irony isn’t lost on me.
Q: Chris Huynh delivers some seriously powerful vocals on this track. How did that partnership come about?
Lividus: Chris is a monster talent. I found him through Airgigs, actually. I was looking for someone who could carry both the emotion and the energy of the song. He nailed it from the first take and brought a stadium-ready intensity to the chorus that just gave me chills.
Q: The sound of “Digital Boy” is a mix of classic rock and modern energy. Who are your musical influences?
Lividus: Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull… the legends. I grew up on that stuff. But I also wanted “Digital Boy” to hit fast adapted for today’s attention spans while staying rooted in real instrumentation and storytelling. It’s like a Trojan horse: a catchy rock banger that hopefully plants a deeper message in your head.
Q: What do you hope listeners take away from this song?
Lividus: I hope they hear more than just the riffs and hooks. I want them to question the balance in their lives. Are they really living or just existing through a screen? If “Digital Boy” gets even a few people to step outside, look up, and reconnect with something real, then I’ve done my job.
