What happens when six seasoned musicians find themselves without the stages they once took for granted? Perhaps the answer is simple. They make their own stage, find their people, and keep the music moving. That spirit sits at the heart of G-BRO and comes through naturally in “We Got A Song,” an upbeat original built around connection, rhythm and the undeniable lift that a good song can bring.
Formed during lockdown, the Irvington based six piece turned parking lots, backyards and informal gatherings into opportunities to play. Those early sessions eventually grew into something much bigger, with Cliff Mays, Mike Corn, Jim Weingast, Andy Ladue, Jeff Reich and Mike Ernst developing a sound shaped by years of experience and a shared love of live performance.
“We Got A Song” carries that live band mentality from the first moments. The track feels loose without losing direction, allowing the musicians to feed off one another rather than sounding overly polished or restrained. A major part of that character comes from the pairing of Jim Weingast and Andy Ladue behind the drums. Their interaction gives the rhythm section a restless, syncopated pulse that keeps the song moving while the guitars, keys, bass and vocals fill out the picture.
The recording also reflects G-BRO’s curiosity. The band chose to work at A=432Hz, stepping away from the more familiar 440Hz standard as part of an ongoing exploration of frequency and the emotional relationship between music and listeners. Whatever a listener makes of that concept, the intention is clear: this is music created to make people feel something.
