One evening, standing beside a quiet lake, imagine hearing a distant sound that cannot quite decide whether it is music, memory, or the world itself speaking back. The water remains still, the horizon untouched, yet beneath the calm surface something restless stirs. That sensation sits at the heart of Eric Alexandrakis' latest release, Life Is Better Live.

Rather than following familiar pathways, Alexandrakis invites listeners into a landscape where uncertainty becomes part of the experience. Created as the soundtrack to a short film by acclaimed visual artist Sandro Miller and featured within the Steppenwolf 50: Through the Eye of Sandro Miller exhibition, the single feels less like a conventional composition and more like an emotional environment that unfolds in real time.

Recorded on Okanagan Lake in British Columbia, the track draws inspiration from the boundary pushing philosophies of Karlheinz Stockhausen and John Cage, yet it never feels trapped by homage. Instead, Alexandrakis absorbs those influences and reshapes them through his own artistic lens. The result is a work that embraces unpredictability while remaining deeply intentional.

What makes Life Is Better Live particularly compelling is the way its sonic architecture constantly shifts. Textures emerge and recede, fragments collide, and moments of tension give way to fleeting calm. Sound design and musical performance are so tightly woven together that separating one from the other becomes almost impossible. Every layer appears to serve a larger emotional purpose.

For an artist whose career has consistently defied expectations, this release feels like a natural continuation of a lifelong creative pursuit. Discovered by John Taylor of Duran Duran and known for collaborations spanning music, film, and contemporary art, Alexandrakis has long operated at the intersection of experimentation and expression. Here, he once again demonstrates a willingness to challenge convention while maintaining an unmistakably human presence.

Written, arranged, produced, recorded, and performed by Alexandrakis, with mixing completed alongside Brian Leitner, Life Is Better Live succeeds because it never chases easy answers. Instead, it captures the beauty, confusion, and unpredictability of modern existence through sound. It is immersive, thought provoking, and quietly courageous in its refusal to conform.
