Independent artist Mike Jones returns with a striking new single Black Water a song that pushes past surface level storytelling to deliver something deeply resonant. Released alongside Ballad of a Scoundrel as its B side this marks the sixth entry in Jones’ growing catalog and a milestone in his evolving artistry.

Inspired by the events of Hurricane Katrina two decades ago Black Water balances raw emotion with musical precision. The track moves with a dark atmospheric energy heavy with bass and subtle melodies that amplify the weight of its subject matter. Jones’ self taught journey from a Ramones mix tape at age 12 to his re strung left handed Harmony guitar informs his approach—unpolished in the best sense of the word direct honest and fully his own.

Rather than simply revisiting the past Black Water explores themes of resilience and endurance reminding listeners of how music can give shape to collective memory. Jones’ delivery carries confidence and authenticity making it clear that his voice has matured into one worth paying attention to.

The companion track Ballad of a Scoundrel provides a sharp counterpoint to the lead single offering a different lens through which listeners can hear his versatility. Together the two songs highlight the range of a songwriter who continues to refine his craft with every release.

With Black Water Mike Jones asserts himself as a distinct artist with his own story and his own sound.
