The genre-defying LA-based band Love Ghost has never been one to color inside the lines. With a sound that fuses elements of hyperpop, rap, rock, metal and just about everything in between the five-piece ensemble continues to carve out a space all their own. Their latest release, “Pulp,” might just be their most emotionally raw and sonically expansive track to date.
At the heart of Love Ghost is frontman Finnegan Bell, whose voice carries the ache and urgency of someone who’s lived every word he’s singing. Alongside Bell is a powerhouse team: Daniel Alcala on guitar, Ryan Stevens on bass, Cory Batchler on keys, and Daniel Gallardo behind the drums. Each member contributes not just instrumentally but vocally, building a collective sound that’s immersive, explosive, and deeply personal.
Inspired by Charles Bukowski’s final novel Pulp and the band’s own turbulent journeys through addiction, depression, and spiritual searching, the song explores the haunting intersection of faith and dependence. Bell explains, “It’s about an addict’s relationship with God, how that search for something higher can be both salvation and madness.”
The hook cuts deep: a reminder that everyone, in some way, is wrestling with their own demons, trying to make peace with themselves. It’s this kind of lyrical honesty and emotional grit that sets Love Ghost apart. You don’t just listen to their music, you feel it.
“The new music coming from Love Ghost is just our storytelling of the things happening in our lives at the moment,” Bell shares. “These songs are all threaded together by time. We’re living through a pretty insane period of history, so naturally, we’re making some pretty insane music.”
As “Pulp” pulses with distorted guitars, heavy beats, and moments of eerie calm, it’s clear that Love Ghost isn’t just pushing boundaries they’re tearing them down. For fans of raw storytelling and genre smashing soundscapes, this is a band that demands your attention.
