Following the critical acclaim of their debut single “Disengaged b/w Slipping,” Delta of Venus return with a compelling new release that takes a bold turn in their evolving sound.

Their latest offering, “Intertwined b/w Intertwined (Acoustic),” is both a natural progression and a sharp left turn, melding lush shoegaze textures with a surprising acoustic reimagining that defies expectation.

Intertwined” opens like a slow moving tide, thick with reverb drenched guitars and a rhythm section that pulses more like a heartbeat than a backbeat. There is a weight to the track, both sonically and thematically. Lyrically, it’s a meditation on existing amidst chaos and the quiet, often unnoticed acts of empathy that link people together, even those you’ve never met, as the band puts it. Vocal lines are buried just deep enough in the mix to become another layer in the fog, a hallmark of the shoegaze genre, yet there is a clarity of emotion that cuts through with surprising immediacy.

The real surprise, however, comes on the B side. What began as a joke suggestion during rehearsal, bassist Mat Tarbox's offhand idea to record an acoustic version, blossomed into a full bodied rework that feels anything but comedic. Guitarist Ellery Twining took the idea seriously, reaching into his personal guitar collection to craft something altogether unexpected: acoustic shoegaze. It is not a contradiction. It is an invitation into a quieter storm, where the same emotional charge of the original is funneled through wood and string rather than amp and pedal.

Stripped of its dense electric layers, the acoustic version lays bare the bones of the song, and the result is haunting. Harmonics ring like whispers, and the vocals are pushed slightly forward, revealing a lyrical vulnerability that might otherwise be obscured. It is a rare case where the remix, or in this case the reimagining, adds depth rather than diluting the intent.

With this second single, Delta of Venus continue to define themselves not by genre boundaries but by a commitment to sonic exploration. “Intertwined b/w Intertwined (Acoustic)” is not only a worthy follow up to their debut, it is a statement of purpose from a band refusing to stand still.
