Dark City Kings return with a bold and unapologetically vibrant statement in their new EP Champions of Tomorrow’s Fun released August 1st 2025. Hailing from Black Mountain United States the band channels the spirit of their influences The Waterboys Blondie The Cure Talking Heads B52s Duran Duran Joy Division and Madonna into a record that pulses with life optimism and a fierce refusal to be subdued by the chaos of the world.

At the heart of this release lies a double single that perfectly encapsulates the group’s sonic range. The title track Champions of Tomorrow’s Fun bursts with the playful swagger of B52s style pop while carrying a zydeco inflected rhythm that’s as irresistible as it is unexpected. In contrast Atmosphere immerses listeners in an icy post punk haze layered introspective and imbued with a haunting beauty. Together they showcase a band equally comfortable igniting a dance floor and pulling an audience into a quiet reflective moment.

What truly sets Champions of Tomorrow’s Fun apart is the way it frames joy not as a fleeting indulgence but as a deliberate act of rebellion. Recorded at Citizen Vinyl studios in Asheville a historic space steeped in musical legacy the sessions were infused with a sense of history and purpose. Working alongside legendary producer Kevin Moloney renowned for his work on Sinéad O’Connor’s first two albums the band captured not just songs but a spirit. That spirit was forged in a weathered homestead deep in the Southern Appalachian Mountains where nights stretched long with Irish whiskey laughter and the relentless pursuit of melodies that could carry light into the dark.

It is a rare thing in today’s underground music scene to find pop executed with such care intention and unapologetic hooks. Dark City Kings embrace that rarity crafting tracks that are catchy without compromise melodic without predictability. Their choruses soar their arrangements are sharp and their performances carry an immediacy that feels both urgent and timeless.

Champions of Tomorrow’s Fun is not just an EP it is an open invitation to celebrate to sing and to remember that joy can still burn bright in uncertain times.
