C’BATCH’s I Guess You Want It This Way: A Long Lost Melody Finds Its Way Home

Some songs refuse to be forgotten. They linger quietly in the background, waiting for the right moment to become what they were always meant to be. For C’batch, I Guess You Want It This Way is one of those songs, a musical idea that spent approximately 26 years waiting for its final chapter before finding new life in a six track EP that connects personal history with a lasting appreciation for reggae.
The story began with encouragement from his Jamaican born wife, Yvette, who had long wanted him to explore the genre. Although an early version of the composition took shape years ago, something remained unfinished. Its central hook and the melody running through the verses stayed with him, refusing to disappear into the past. Returning to the piece in 2026, C’batch finally found the words needed to bring the composition together, turning an old creative pursuit into a completed work.
Across six interpretations, I Guess You Want It This Way revisits the same musical foundation from different perspectives. Rather than treating the original idea as something that belongs exclusively to another era, C’batch gives it room to evolve through a blend of reggae, soul, R&B and contemporary production. The approach reflects an artist who understands that a song can hold its identity while continuing to reveal new possibilities. Each interpretation contributes to the wider concept, making the EP feel like a considered exploration rather than simply a collection of alternate versions.
There is also a meaningful tribute at the heart of this release. Dedicated to legendary Jamaican guitarist Ernest Ranglin, whom C’batch met at Heathrow Airport in February 2001, the project acknowledges a musician whose contribution to Jamaican music continues to resonate. For C’batch, himself an accomplished guitarist, that connection gives the EP an added personal significance.
The release also fits naturally into his ongoing The Vault series, which brings compositions and musical ideas from across his career into the present. With decades of experience spanning dance, funk, jazz influenced music, soul and R&B, C’batch approaches this chapter with the perspective of someone who has never stopped creating. Released through Stevette Music, Inc., I Guess You Want It This Way is ultimately about patience, memory and the value of returning to unfinished work. Sometimes, the right song takes years to explain itself. C’batch has finally given this one its opportunity to speak.
